Mason Jar Wine Glasses

Today on MIDDAY I shared a few ideas for incorporating mason jars into a vintage wedding theme. I showed how to make the Mason Jar Wine Glasses as well as a few other ideas. The Mercury Glass Candle Holder actually hangs or is beautiful on a table. It came from Kirkland's in Greenwood Mall and is orderable in four different colors. The one shown is the pewter colored one. To personalize it I used a rhinestone pin from the Wearables section of Hobby Lobby. Take wire cutters and remove the clasp and then hot glue it to the metal work on the front of the candle holder. You can also glue those to the mason jars if you get the smooth mason jars from the Crafts department at Hobby Lobby. The mason jars for the wine glasses came from the Dollar General store and are $7.99 for a case of 12. The candle stick holder also came from there for $1 each. Use E6000 glue (Hobby Lobby) to glue them together letting them sit for 48 hours before washing. They are a great take home favor. If you need custom tags for them I am happy to work with you on a paper order to create just what you need.

Wedding Season 2012 has begun

I love this time of year. Holiday decorations are packed away as are all the supplies to make them. Now I can concentrate on my Wedding projects. I attended my first Bridal show of the season this past weekend with my good friend Terri, Celebrations Off Main in Russellville, KY. She had her MOJO Photo Booth at the show and I got to help her with it. Seeing all the new excited brides was wonderful but in a few cases it made me feel old. Several of the "little girls" I coached years ago in cheerleading/drill team are now getting married. Where did the time go? I haven't posted many wedding photos on here lately since the focus has been on seasonal decorating. But I want to share a few. These table numbers were shipped last week to a couple that decided they didn't want to use "numbers" but to personalize it with the names of their favorite Bob Marley songs. The others are photos of things that have all shipped over the last few weeks to brides across the USA, Australia and Canada. Hopefully this evening I will get the photos of how to make the "Red Neck Wine Glasses" posted as well. I demo'd those today on our local midday news show. Valentine Wreath from Deco Mesh

Took advantage of the 65 degree day which is rare for January in southern Kentucky. Got my Valentine Wreath made and up on the front door. Donated the Christmas Wreath and stuff to St. Vincent De Paul's thrift store.

Is this one pink enough? I decided to give it a new twist. It is built on a grapevine heart basket with two shades of pink deco mesh spirals. The basket area is filled with pink dew drop roses, pink and white filler and glittery pink heart picks. Curly metalic heart ting ting sprays were made by wrapping them around a broom handle, removing and wiring to a floral pick. Love the wreath and want one like it? Frosty's Candy Land Garland with Deco Mesh

FINALLY, it was a beautiful sunny day here. I think it had been a week since we had seen the sun. Started Thanksgiving Dinner and then went to work on getting the candy land themed garland up.

Started at the mailbox. I hate my mailbox itself but considering I live in a sharp curve and frequently end up with cars in the yard from speeding on wet roads, basic mailbox is best option. A couple of years ago they destroyed a supposedly indestructible one :). So basic is it. Put a piece of styrofoam on the mailbox. Use the giant candy canes I altered with ribbon (covering the ugly red stripe) I staggered them across the center. I then added the deco mesh in the three colors I am using this season - hot pink, lime green and aqua blue. To secure them I used floral pins. Yesterday I made giant lollipops on our local news show, four of those were added to the mailbox as was glittery berries and white snowflakes.

Finished with that I moved onto the front porch. Not only do I hate my mailbox, I also hate my front door. I needed to paint it black and it is now too late in season to do since I would need to scrape. So I will come back to the door and cover it with a solid colored plastic table cloth in a bright color and am going to add a painted Greeting panel across the bottom of the screen door (using magnets). I think I am going to make a couple more trees, one larger than that one and other same size. Maybe I will do each in a different color of the mesh..... Anyway, work in progress, beautiful day, time with family, lots to be thankful for.

Goodbye Farmer's Market 2011

Last weekend was the last day for Farmer's Market. It was cold and sunny. I snapped a few photos of my booth prior to another vendor's dad backing his butt into a display and breaking several wreaths. It was heartbreaking hearing the glass balls on the wreaths break as they hit the ground, knowing how hard I had worked on them. They made it worse when they didn't acknowledge it or even say they were sorry. It took every ounce of self control I had not to go off. If I had broken something I would have offered to pay for it and apologized like crazy, not to mention have helped clean up the glass. So it was quite an ending for the market season. Now I am doing craft shows the first three weeks in November and tending my ETSY STORE. I have added seasonal ornaments, snowman soups, etc. there.

Fall Decorating is almost done

I am trying to get stuff made for farmer's market and at the same time get my house decorated. LOVE fall! Here are a few of the things I made for myself. The grapevine angel makes such a welcoming arrangement. I do offer those for sell in my ETSY STORE.

Took the "witch's is in" wreath to the market and sold it. Had priced it high enough I figured I could keep it. But a gentleman from IN decided he needed it more than I did :). I had bought the wood stocking at a trade show in OH so it was the last one.

One corner of my living room. My youngest son and I painted the bench in the corner together when he was like eight or nine. It was a flea market find. The day we painted it was so cold we could only stay outside for a moment or two at a time. I cherish that memory.

Here in Kentucky we stack our pumpkins beside the door. I started making these grapevine witch's hats a few years ago. They are labor intensive but I love the look. I had to try out pumpkins to find just the right ones. Kind of like trying on an outfit but the opposite.

Easy monogram pumpkin wreaths for kid's doors or to place along a driveway, door, etc. I sell these at the Farmer's Market as well. Polka dotted ribbon and deco mesh bow finish it off. These are also easy to ship and they are $11 plus shipping if anyone would like one. They are also a great teacher's gift.

BOO-Dazzled Deco Mesh Pumpkin

Hobby Lobby is also out of stock on all the curly wooden letters now so I had to get plain ones. Spray painted them black and added a little random bling. What do you think?

Will be showing how to make this live Friday, September 23 on WBKO's Midday Live. This is huge and perfect to sit on a porch, a little too thick to use as a wreath unless you have a VERY long nail to put it over.

UPDATE: The server the tv studio used to store the video clips crashed this weekend prior to uploads. I spoke to Media Services today and they have the server in their building now and are trying to recover any videos they can from it. Crossing my fingers mine was one of them. It was a nine minute segment that showed how to make this one, a monogram wreath and other pumpkin decorating ideas. I go back on the show October 7th and haven't decided what I will do yet as the supply of mesh is extrememly tight right now locally after that show. Need mesh? Snickerdoodle Muffins

The taste of wonderful Snickerdoodle Cookies in a warm, mini muffin just welcomes your love. Anyone that knows me knows I love making mini muffins. While some recipes are family secrets this one isn't. Ever since I saw a labor intensive recipe for these on line and tried it, I just knew there should be an easier, less messy way to get that same great flavor. After many attempts and lots of shared muffins with family and friends I developed this quick, easy and lessy messy way to get those wonderful muffins.

SNICKERDOODLE MUFFINS
By Lynne Carey

Ingredients:
One box of KRUSTEAZ Snickerdoodle Cookie Mix (ignore all directions on box)
One large egg
One stick of butter, softened at room temp (don't melt and add hot butter to mix)
1/4 c. water
3 tbs. milk
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray mini muffin tins with PAM or cooking spray. Open box and set the cinnamon sugar mix aside. Add all other ingredients to large bowl and stir to create dough. Stir till well mixed and it pulls away from edges of bowl, scrap down sides. Sprinkle 2/3rds of the cinnamon sugar mix over the dough stirring to swirl it in. I do 1/3 and stir then the other 1/3 and stir. Reserve the other 1/3 to sprinkle over the tops. Scoop and drop into mini muffin tins (2/3 full). When all tins are filled sprinkle remain mix over the tops before placing in oven. Bake 12-15 minutes or until tops are set. Check with toothpick or knife. The smell is awesome and is a good indicator of doneness as well. Makes 34-36 mini muffins.

Deco Mesh Mail Box Wreath

Just quickly did this tonight. It isn't complete as I couldn't find the rest of my flowers in all the boxes in the studio. I need to learn to label, lol.

Supplies - one roll of deco mesh 21" wide in your choice of color
- scarecrow from the Dollar store (this one was $5 and I broke most of the stick off the back so he could sit not stand)
- flowers, fruit, filler
- floral pins (often called greening pins, U pins, S pins, etc)
- clear packing tape
- scissors, wire cutter

Step 1 - Take a piece of styrofoam and use clear packing tape to adhere in to your mail box.

Step 2 - Stick scarecrow into the center of the foam block allowing his legs to dangle off each side of mailbox.

Step 3 - Take deco mesh in your choice of color. Gather one end and get up close and personal with your scarecrow by pinning this in his crotch area on the foam. Use two pins.

Step 4 - Make loops by gathering (not twisting) the decorative mesh and pinning to the block. I went to the left first, around the front, to the right and the around the back. I used about 1/2 a roll of the mesh. There are 10 yards on a roll.

Step 5 - Cut and add flowers of your choice around the block, sticking through the mesh into the foam. Add fruit and other picks as desired.

I have done this for all seasons with different centerpieces (pumpkin, angel, snowman, season metal decor)

Mason Jar Light Sets and Putkas

Farmer's Market is starting again for me in September. With that in mind I have been making lampshades for it. I just decided to add a few to my etsy store as well. This is a set - you get the shade of your choice, one cup of my scented Putkas (OrangeBerry, Pumpkin Spice or Cinnamon Vanilla and a battery operated tealight. The shades are hand cut and assembled by me with love. You provide the regular mouth mason jar. Besides the fall ones shown I have snowmen, roosters, santa, apples, florals, friendship, rustic, prim, etc. I also loaded a set of three into my etsy store. A little bit of trivia for you....years ago I used to create a line of 8 shades exclusively for Longaberger Basket Company. Their shades were designed using their artwork and went on their Blue Ribbon Mason Jars. Need shades and have your own fixins and lights? Summer Weddings - Table Numbers and more

I must confess I took a summer vacation from my blog. It has been so busy with weddings that I just needed to take a break. For the benefit of my brides I maintained my facebook page for them on a daily basis. But since brides rarely visit here, just those canvasing for crafting ideas, I didn't blog. But summer is almost over. That means a slow down in the wedding season and a chance to work on fall crafts for my return to the Farmer's Market the first week of September. This is the first time in many years that I won't be working in the retail decor business which means I get to enjoy working on fall/christmas crafts in the season instead of putting things out in May at Hobby Lobby, where I worked. I long for the first cool breath of fall, the first chill of the air, the way Mother Nature dresses herself in Autumn hues, embellished with late blooms of mums. I sleep better, have more energy and more creativity in the fall. What about you? My fall buying trip is in two weeks in OH. Fall is coming!!! My booth at the Farmer's Market will overflow with Grapevine Wreaths, Witches Hats, Banner, Garlands, Pumpkin Poo, Witches Brew and more. But to get it ready I have lots of work to do and wanted to share a few of my favorite wedding orders from the summer.

Beyond the Cupakes in Cupcake Shooters

Aren't these new containers exciting? The clear plastic allows you to see the treat you are about to enjoy. The traditional way to do so is to simply put two mini cupcakes and icing in the push up container. While that is yummy and great for a kid's party, the containers are also great for other treats. Here are some of my favorite no mess, no utensil ways to enjoy. All are great for your summer entertaining:

*Banana Pudding Pops - Place a vanilla wafer in container, add a spoonful of pudding, another wafer then more pudding, repeat layers and finish off with a dob of whipped cream

*Mud Pie Pop - Cute and edible - Crush chocolate cookies in a bowl, add about a half inch of the crumbs to the push up container, then layer in chocolate pudding - inserting a gummy worm or bug(or even a couple) into the pudding so it is visible against the plastic, then another layer of cookie crumbs, a dab more of pudding and finally finish off with a gummy worm or bug of your choice :)

*Strawberry Shortcake Pop - Take the poundcake dessert cups you see at groceries - cube it. Place several cubes of shortcake in the push up container. Add fresh sliced berries and whipped cream. Repeat layers and garnish with a slice of fruit. This actually works with other fruits as well. Laura Rogers of WBKO suggested adding blue berries for a red, white, blue sweet treat for Memorial Day or July 4th parties. What a great idea!

*Cheesecake Pop - Crush graham crackers in a bowl and add about 1/2" to your container. Then add a tablespoon or two of cheesecake pie filling (I use Jello brand), more cookie and then more pudding. Garnish with a slice of fresh fruit.

*Ice cream pop - Why not use your favorite receipe for homemade ice cream and create your own push up pops?

*Frozen Slushie - Make your favorite alcoholic or non alcoholic frozen drink receipe and enjoy.

Here are a couple of more I created this weekend. Check back next week for a video clip of me doing them on our local news show. These are all done on grapevine wreath base. The bright one mixes the 21" fushia mesh with the 6" lime mesh. The finished size on that wreath is 30". The oval is done with the 6" lime mesh. I made three others but they all sold before I got the pics done.

And here is one I created a few weeks back. It is done on a straw wreath.

Just finished making an Easter Garland/Banner using artwork by Laurie Furnell. She is awesome and this just makes my house so springing, lol. I have to get those Command strips to hang it by on the wall. But it the meantime I took two floral pins and stuck them in the seam between the molding and my doorframe to give you a photo (or three) of them. I used leftover pieces of cardstock and die cut them to place behind the printed sections. What do you think? Want to climb aboard this cute Easter Train?

Mesh Wreath - Spring Wreath with Butterflies and Gerbers

I call this one "Flight of the Butterfly". I know there is a song called, "Flight of the Bumblebees." But I hate bees, they sting. Not a good way to welcome guests to your home. So I decided butterflies were much better for this wreath. I used one roll of the Hot Pink Glimmer Decorative Mesh, 5 white gerber daisies and 5 lime green butterflies. Notice the curly wires on the butterflies...just take the wire and wrap around your index finger to make it curly. So much nicer looking that straight wire. Total time to make wreath was less than 15 minutes.

Lots more to get made and added later but here are the ones finished so far. PLEASE NOTE - Much of the country, except south is expecting probably the worst winter weather of the season this week. I will be watching and timing shipping accordingly to insure the safety of your candles during transport. Those with February/March weddings leave tomorrow through USPS Priority Mail. 80% of the candles shown are done earlier than expected and will be shipped sometime this coming week, most during the later half of the week. A Tribute to a World War II Veteran

We spent Christmas week in a vigil awaiting my Uncle George's death. He died in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. He had been a veteran of World War II but never talked about it. Back in May, Nashville TN experienced massive flooding. My aunt and uncle's house had anywhere from 4-6 feet in it. After the waters receded we started salvaging. In a cedar chest we found his Steelheart Bible. The bible was a pocket bible that had a steel cover on it. It was given to soldier's to put in their front chest pocket to over their hearts. The steelcover was to stop a bullet. That was in the chest along with his uniform hat, dog tags, unit patches, bronze star, purple heart and more awards. For his funeral we took the items we had saved and cleaned and created this work of love to pay tribute to a wonderful man.

UPDATE -

TO SEE SPRING MESH WREATH CLICK HEREI took advantage of the 70 degree weather we had today. It was overcast and really windy but warm. Playing with the mesh in the wind was really difficult but I think it was worth it. It isn't dark yet so I can't take pics of it lit up but the mesh is on the mailbox along with berries, pinecones and white mums. I am a Christmas baby and absolutely HATE poinsettas with a passion. Growing up I never had a birthday cake that didn't say Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday. It always had poinsettas on it. No pink Barbie cake for me :( when that is what I dreamed of as a little girl. So I always go with something different now that I am a "big girl". I took a styrofoam sheet and attached to my mail box with weatherproof tape. Then pinned big loops of mesh on it. Filled in with pinecones, berries and mums.

When I got that done I took on the task of the porch. I need to paint but wasn't going to waste a lovely day doing it. First I hung the green garland and then attached the light to it. After I got that done I went back and gathered the mesh in loops and attached with metallic pipe cleaners. Added mums to it too. The candle lamp I got at Hobby Lobby. Took it and added holly garland, mums and a big mesh bow. The light you see in it is an electric light I use in crafting. I attached it with floral clay instead of adding a candle. The bench isn't finished. I have a large bow on it but will be adding a few packages. Tip - if you want to do packages for outside cover the boxes with the colored cheap plastic tableclothes from Dollar Tree INSTEAD of wrapping paper. Will be finishing those with mesh bows. Also not finished is the tree in front yard. I am making angels from the mesh and will mount several of them on the tree trunk at different angles. But this is what I got done today. Enjoy!

Decorative Mesh Wreaths - Quick, Easy and WOW factor for christmas

I have been doing demos with this stuff all week at work. So I thought I would share the how to's here. I have been using 18" straw wreaths ever since I ran us out of foam (it is cheaper too).
Supplies: 1 roll of 21" wide decorative mesh, floral pins, 18" straw or foam wreath.

Step 2 - Gather and pin edge with floral pin onto top of wreath. Make sure this first pinning is where you can pull the mesh up and over to cover the pin.

Step 3 - Measure out about 12" of mesh, gather and pin 3" from the first pin.

Step 4 - Repeath the 12" of mesh, gather, pin 3" from last pin all the way around the top surface of the wreath. Do not twist - just gather

Step 5 - Once you have come all the way back around start gathering and pinning beneath the top loops, again 12" of mesh, 3" pinning spaces. This should finish out the roll. If you have little bit left just tuck and pin behind the wreath.

Congrats, you are done! Embellish with a bow or floral accents if you like. How easy was that?

I was supposed to have had the last few days off and hoped to be able to ship lots of my orders early since I could work. I did get alot done Sunday and Monday. But I made the mistake of answering my phone yesterday morning when I was still sleeping. I got called into work as my coworker had gotten hurt. Today we went to Nashville. For those that read my blog you will know that in early May we had devestating floods in this area. My elderly aunt and uncle barely got out alive and lost most of the contents of their house (photos in blog old listings). We got word yesterday that the repairs to the house were aproaching completion and they would get to move back in. So we went down today to drive her to get basics (shower curtains, draperies, pots/pans, etc for their home. They had been staying in an assisted living apartment until they could get back in. It was wonderful to see her happy and actually hear my uncle talk (he is blind and had a stroke). Imagine being in your 80's, bad health and having to leave your home and all possessions behind to get out with your lives. They were lucky they did. So now we begin the process of getting them moved back in. Walking through the house today I was amazed at the progress. Actually the progress of recovery of that whole area was amazing as we had seen it at its worst. The motto of recovery has been Nashville Rising! And it is true, from the muck, mud and tears, hope and recovery has risen. There is a very long road to travel but now you can see the road. Thank you to all that have prayed for my family during this.

All orders will be shipped on time and I hope to get to the point soon where I am shipping early again. For that reason I haven't been listing anything new in my etsy store for the last few days. My customers have been wonderful about spreading the word for me and business has been great.
